In the menu bar at the top of each JPriseMerge window is the File menu. These options are used to create, open and save a JPriseMerge project, and to save the merge output file as a GEDCOM database file. Also you have the ability to close the particular JPriseMerge window, or to completely exit JPriseMerge and close all it's windows.
Gedcom Merge uses the concept of project to allow you to accomplish a big project as a series of small sessions. A project is the collection of your base file, your merge source file, your merge output file, and other project state information. All of this is defined and contained within a single file that can be stored on your disk when you save a project. (see below) You define a starting place when you open a new project.
This opens up an existing project and loads it into JPriseMerge. A File Dialog box will pop up allowing you to browse to and locate the project file on your disk drives. This allows you continue with a merge session from where you last left off.
As soon as you save a project, you capture snapshots of your base file, and merge source file. These snapshots are stored inside a JPriseMerge project file so that the project is insulated from further changes to them. In addition, JPriseMerge also stores the current state of your merge output file and other state information inside this project file. Selecting Save Project causes all this information to be written out to the same project file that was opened when you started up JPriseMerge, thus updating it.
Basically this is the same as the Save Project command described above, except that it allows you to name/rename you project file or put it in a different place.
