Getting Started -- Overview

Welcome to the JPrise Inc. JPriseMerge tool help overview. JPriseMerge comes with a set of help files in html format so you can view them conveniently with your browser.

In addition to these basic help files, we have also provided  Tutorial pages which walk you through some common scenarios and shows step by step how to accomplish each task. You may wish to browse through all the other help files to gain a bit of understanding first, or jump right in and take the tutorial walk through. Either way, we hope you will find JPriseMerge is an easy and intuitive tool to use.

At the top of each help page you will find a link to the table of contents, and from there can navigate to any of the other help pages. At the bottom of each page you will also find a link to the JPrise Inc feedback page which we encourage you to use to provide us with suggestions on how we can further improve both the tool and these help pages.

JPriseMerge is organized into a set of windows which organize, display, and track the process of merging two GEDCOM genealogy databases into a single new database with information from the two source databases combined/merged into the resultant database. This resultant database can then stored to a separate GEDCOM output file for future use by this or other genealogy programs. For each of these JPriseMerge windows there is a corresponding window-specific help file, or set of help files, which describe the purpose of that window and how to use it.

When JPriseMerge is first launched, it will come up in its tutorial mode. In this mode, it will open up two representative GEDCOM source databases which you can use to play with and learn how to go about merging data from them.  You will also be directed to the Tutorial Help Pages for step-by-step instructions.

In each session, when a JPriseMerge window is opened up for the first time, JPriseMerge will also display the help page associated with that JPriseMerge window.   This beginner behavior may be turned off (or back on) any time using the Help -> Show first-use help menu.  This setting is stored in your projects preferences file and will be remembered the next time you start JPriseMerge.

Sometimes, there are more concepts to be described than can be logically associated with a JPriseMerge window's help page. These additional concepts will each have its own help page which can be found by going to the Table of Contents and choosing the appropriate link to click on there.
